KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 \u2014 The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has received 38,145 applications for the People\u2019s Housing Projects (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) up until last January.<\/p>\n

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said applications involving the urban poor had been received since 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf the total, 14,412 applications have been offered for the housing units until March.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe took a long time to approve the applications because the number of vacant units for the housing is very limited,\u201d he told Bernama.<\/p>\n

Following that, he said, DBKL has identified several locations in the capital to build council homes to meet the needs of this group.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are completing the development project in Sungai Udang, Segambut, involving the construction of 1,251 units, which is expected to be completed next September. We will also build about 760 units in Jalan Semilang, Cheras, as well as await approval for the project in Taman Desa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said unlike PA and PPR housing unit, the council home is about 700 to 750 square feet and has three rooms and two bathrooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rental rate for council home may be higher than PA and PPR, but it is still lower than the market price.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is important is we want to give more comfort to the city folks, as well as to overcome the housing problem of the urban poor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mahadi said DBKL had 61,806 PA and PPR units with 37,582 units being leased out at a rental rate of between RM94 and RM124 a month, while another 24,224 units have been sold.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the PPR and PA houses have been sold and the owners are allowed to rent them out to others.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, for DBKL tenants, they are not allowed to rent the houses to others and if found doing so, they can be disqualified from renting the house,\u201d he added. \u2014 Bernama<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
