KUALA LUMPUR: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, CIDB e-Construct Services Sdn Bhd (CIDBEC), is expected to establish a Fourth Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) roadmap for the construction industry by January 2020.<\/p>\n

The roadmap will cover a five-year period from 2020.<\/p>\n

CIDBEC Chief Executive Officer Rofizlan Ahmad said the roadmap aims to provide a clear direction for industry players and streamline future programmes related to IR 4.0, in particular, the Building Information Modelling (BIM).<\/p>\n

He said a special committee has been set-up, involving various members from relevant fields, namely the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Malaysia Institute of Architects (PAM) and the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe committee will study the status of Malaysia\u2019s construction sector in terms of the adoption level of BIM when compared with those countries which have been implementing it, including the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Mexico.<\/p>\n

\u201cSurveys on usage of BIM and future plans for the country will also be outlined to further enhance the adoption of BIM among industry players,\u201d he told Bernama.<\/p>\n

The BIM is a modelling technology and associated set of process to produce, communicate, analyse and the use of digital information models throughout the construction project life-cycle.<\/p>\n

It is an intelligent three-dimension (3D) model-based process that gives the architecture, engineering, and construction professionals an insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Rofizlan said usage of BIM could save about 15 to 20 per cent in time in the planning and design stage, depending on the design and construction of the project.<\/p>\n

The 3D visualisation also has the ability to provide details of every infrastructure and items within it.<\/p>\n

On the same note, Rofizlan said the BIM roadmap would also emphasise the usage of cloud-based integration for BIM technology, which is highest form of adoption for BIM (Level 3 accreditation).<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving each personnel to be involved on a cloud-based platform will improve the ability for analysis and design audit, efficiency for design production and better understanding of a project in the early stages, amongst others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can also allow them to be at different places and yet able to access project information through the cloud platform. Besides, client and building owners can also evaluate the proposed design and modifications and make quicker decisions on approvals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

CIDBEC is the reference centre for the construction industry, which in turn manages the CIDB myBIM Centre, which provides training on BIM and its technologies, as well as other services such as room rental facilities, studios and labs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
