IPM was proudly invited to the Wakatobi Wonderful Festival and Expo 2017 (Wakatobi Wave), which took place in Wangi-Wangi District, Saturday (11/11/2017). This annual event was attended by the regents / mayor and the representatives of the King of Nusantara and some International Kings.

Agus Purwoto, Secretary Coordinating Ministry of Home Affairs who are the representative of Joko Widodo, President Republic of Indonesia, Duli Yang Dipertuan Agung D’Raja Nusantara Prof. Dr.Hc. Maharaja Srinala Pradita Alpiansyahrechza Fachlevie Wangsawarman. Ph.D. and a total of 46 raja-raja of D’Raja Nusantara who are the VIP were attended for the opening ceremony of Wakatobi Wave 2017, invited by Ketua DPRD Kabupaten Wakatobi.

There were more than 1,000 peoples of Wangi-Wangi had involved to the performance as traditional cultural wedding, dancing, martial art and more events for the celebration of Festival Wakatobi Wave. Apart from that, IPM is honoured to be invited to provide advice and consultancy services on tourism and township development for Wakatobi.

Senibina merupakan satu profesion yang melibatkan variasi yang luas dan pengetahuan, seperti proses dan perancangan produk, merekabentuk dan membina bangunan, serta lain-lain fizikal struktur. Pada zaman lampau, arkitek pernah dilabel sebagai ‘master builder’ disebabkan pada masa itu tiada tugas khusus yang merangkumi perancangan awalan, reka bentuk skematik, pengembangan reka bentuk, dokumentasi kontrak, pelaksanaan kontrak, dan pengurusan. Secara keseluruhan, ianya melibatkan reka bentuk dan pengurusan.

Terdapat sebanyak 2023 arkitek berdaftar (dengan lesen pengamal) dan 2313 arkitek graduan (bagi sesiapa yang tamat khusus akreditasi oleh LAM Part II) seperti yang direkodkan oleh Lemabaga Arkitek Malaysia pada September 2017. Tujuan lembaga tersebut adalah untuk mempunyai 10,000 pengamal arkitek dalam pasaran menjelang tahun 2020, namun ianya masih jauh dari keadaan reality. Maka, adalah sangat penting bagi pengamal arkitek, terutamanya arkitek-arkitek berdaftar dan arkitek graduan untuk terlibat sama dengan golongan muda bagi mencari bakat-bakat baru.

Dalam bidang senibina, terdapat pemikir makro dan pemikir micro. Bagi kebanyakannya, arkitek dilabel sebagai pemikir makro dengan pepatah mereka adalah ‘jack of all trades, master of none’. Ianya bermaksud, arkitek boleh melihat sesuatu perkara dalam dimensi yang berbeza dan dapat mengenalpasti hubungkait di antaranya. Sebagai contoh, bagi mencipta satu cadangan rekabentuk yang bagus dan meyakinkan,terdapat keperluan pemahaman bukan sahaja terhadap keperluan klien dan perincian teknikal, namun arkitek juga perlu memahami persekitarannya, sejarah, budaya dan orang (pengguna). Sebilangan arkitek mungkin juga mempunyai minat untuk menjadi pemikir mikro yang hanya fokus pada masalah teknikal. Mereka ini adalah jenis yang pemikir kritis dan hebat dalam peraturan-peraturan. Tiada istilah salah atau betul, tetapi yang penting adalah kategori mana yang dimiliki oleh seseorang itu. Dengan adanya kefahaman tersebut, ianya lebih mudah untuk meletakkan diri dalam industry dan mengoptimumkan potensi diri.

Dalam senibina, system rekabentuk dan pengurusan boleh dipelajari. Ianya perlu untuk meningkatkan kecekapan untuk mengendalikan maklumat yang banyak, dokumen-dokumen dan sumber yang ada. System yang baik membolehkan semua maklumat seperti, kehendak klien, reka bentuk dan input dari jurutera, pengiraan-pengiraan, reka bentuk landskap, reka bentuk perancang, dokumentasi dapat dikongsi antara pihak yang terlibat. Ketelusan, perkongsian maklumat yang pantas dan struktur maklumat yang sistematik adalah kunci untuk menghasilkan sistem yang hebat. Dengan memastikan orang yang tepat untuk mendapatkan mesej yang tepat dan jelas adalah salah satu faktor yang boleh menambahbaik produktiviti seseorang. Seseorang itu akan memperoleh pengalaman bagaimana proses dan system tersebut dikendalikan dalam sekolah senibina. Di abad ke-21 di mana sumber maklumat menjadi terlalu banyak adalah suatu kebiasaan, satu sistem perlu dimiliki untuk menyusun dan menguruskan maklumat-maklumat tersebut adalah penting untuk terus kekal berdaya saing. Maka, adalah satu kelebihan untuk mempunyai sistem peribadi yang dapat mengendalikan tugas-tugas harian dan dikembangkan ke arah pengendalian syarikat.

Dalam senibina juga, penciptaan merupakan satu peluang yang boleh dipelajari. Bagi seseorang yang pengamal, senibina adalah sesuai untuk mereka kerana ianya adalah lebih kepada pengamalan berbanding pembelajaran.

Contohnya untuk mereka bentuk sesuatu bangunan, sebuah rumah tidaklah mudah seperti yang dilihat dan ia melibatkan pelbagai pengetahuan teknikal. Bermula dari rekabentuk setiap ruang, setiap bukaan, bahan struktur, baha kemasan, pencahayaan semula jadi, pengudaraan, bekalan air dan pengaliran, sisa buangan dan keselesaan adala sebahagian daripada pertimbangan reka bentuk untuk sebuah rumah. Yang terakhir, dengan semua maklumat yang telah dikumpulkan, barulah rekabentuk yang bagus dapat dihasilkan. Maka, dengan mempelajari sanibina, seseorang itu dapat mempelajari prose penghasilan sesuau produk.

Selain daripada itu, semua orang akan mempelajari tentangkerjasama dan komunikasi dalam bidang senibina. Komunikasi adalah kunci kepada kerjasama yang hebat; kerjasama yang hebat akan mengurangkan pertikaian dan menambah kepelbagaian ketika project dilaksanakan. Dengan sekolah senibina, semua orang dilatih untuk menjadi pembentang. Setiap project akan diakhiri dengan pembentangan kepada juri panel, menerangkan tujuan rekabentuk dan konsep yang digunakan. Ia bukan sahaja dapat meningkatkan kemahiran pertuturan di hadapan umum tetapi juga dapat meningkatkan keyakinan diri. Selain daripada itu, terdapat banyak peluang untuk bekerjasama dengan lain-lain kepakaran dalam projek-projek yang terlibat. Secara ringkasnya, dengan adanya kemahiran berkomunikasi untuk mencapai kerjasama, seseorang itu boleh mengendalikan sebuah pasukan dan juga sebuah syarikat. Ianya berguna pada era kini di mana tiada manusia yang akan berjaya secara keseorangan dan sebuah kerjasama akan menghasilkan keajaiban walaupun dengan mula secara kecilan!

Kesimpulannya, berada dalam komuniti yang sentiasa mengalami perubahan secara pesat adalah tidak mudah bagi mana-mana golongan muda. Justeru itu, adalah satu tindakan bijak untuk mengambil kemahiran-kemahiran yang telah disebutkan di atas yang ditawarkan dalam pembelajaran senibina untuk seseorang itu dapat meningkatkan daya tahan dan daya saing untuk meneruskan kehidupan.

Architecture is a profession that involves a large variation of skills and knowledge, like the processes and the products of planning, designing and constructing buildings and other physical structures. In the past, architects were once labeled as ‘master builder’ as there was no tasks specialization like what this era is having now. Now, the architect’s job scope has been more specialized which usually covers preliminary planning, schematic design, design development, contract documentation, contract implementation, and management. Overall it is about design and management.

There is a total of 2023 registered architects (with practicing license) and 2313 graduate architects (those who finished the five to six years course with accreditation of LAM Part II) as of September 2017 in the record of the Board of Architects Malaysia. The aim of the board is to have 10,000 practicing architects in the market by 2020 however this is far from becoming a reality. Thus, it is utmost important for the practicing architects, especially those registered architects and graduate architects to engage with the young generation to tap in more new blood’s talent.

In architecture, there is the macro thinker and the micro thinker. Most of the time, architects are labeled as a macro thinker with the saying of a jack of all trades, master of none. Meaning to say, architects can see things through different dimensions and identify the connection in between. For example, to make a good and persuasive design proposal, there is a need to understand not only the client’s need and the technical details, it is also about how well the architect understand the surrounding, history, culture and the people (end users). Some architects may develop the interest being a micro thinker who focuses only on technical issues. They are detailed oriented and are good in regulations. There is no right and wrong being either of them, but to know which thinker one belongs is important. With that self-understanding, it is easier to position oneself in the industry and optimize the potential.

In architecture, the system for design and management can be learnt. It is to increase the efficiency to handle the sheer volume of information, documents, and resources. A good system can capture all the information like client’s brief, engineers’ design and input, calculations, landscape designs, planners’ designs, documentation and shared among the involved parties. Transparency, instantaneous information sharing, and systematic information structure are the keys to making a great system. Ensuring the right person can get an instant message with clarity is one of the factors that could improve the productivity of the people. In architecture school, one will experience the process and the system on how to handle such process is taught. In this 21st century where saturation of information is a norm, having a system to sort and manage is important to stay competitive. Hence, it is the advantage to have a personal system to handle the daily life chores and expand it towards handling the whole company.

In architecture, there is an opportunity to learn about the methods to create. For a person who is practical, architecture is very suitable as it is more about practicing than studying. Designing a building, for instance, a house is not as simple as it seems and involves different technical knowledge. From the design of every space, each opening, structure materials, finishing materials, building structure, natural day-lighting, ventilation, water discharge and supply, waste management and comfortability are part of the design consideration for a single house. Each of the niche knowledge can be consulted from every different professional. Finally, with all the information gathered, then only a great design can be created. Thus, by studying architecture, one learns about the process of creating a product. It is very beneficial as this is an era where intellectual properties do generate a lot of profits.

Besides, in architecture, everyone learns about cooperation and communication. Communication is the key to great cooperation; great cooperation ensures fewer disputes and variations during the projects. In other words, this increases the productivity and efficiency. Being in the school of architecture, everyone is trained to be a presenter. Every single project will end up with a presentation to the panels, justifying the design decisions and concept. It not only improves one’s public speaking skills but also increase the self-confidence. Besides that, there are opportunities to work with others on projects. In a nutshell, with the communication skills to make collaboration happens, one can manage a team and even a company. It is helpful as this is an era where no man is an island and collaboration can create miracles, even in a small startup!

Ultimately, being in such rapidly changing society is never easy for any youngsters. Henceforth, it is wise to pick up the skills mentioned above that could be provided by architectural study so that one could develop resilience and competitiveness to survive.

Franchise and License Expo Indonesia 2017 had been successfully organized at Jakarta Convention Center from 8 to 10 September 2017. The objective of the event is to provide a better understanding of the industry to participants. The expo also targeted to build a platform for franchisors to meet with the potential entrepreneurs who keen to start or buy a business.

IPM had participated as an exhibitor of the event to introduce and promote IPM Franchise System to Indonesian Market through the platform provided. During the event, IPM had received tremendous response from the visitors and successfully increased the popularity of IPM in the international market.
