THE Public Works Ministry (KKR) will leverage the latest technology in delivering strategic infrastructure projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13), covering road networks, highways, bridges, buildings and essential public amenities.

In a statement today, the ministry said the five‑year development plan is not merely about physical projects, but also aims to improve the quality of life for Malaysians for a fairer, more prosperous future for all, whether in urban or rural areas.

“KKR is committed to realising the aspirations of the MADANI government for the benefit of the people. We will remain consistent in enhancing service delivery to ensure the country’s infrastructure is of higher quality, sustainable, safe and comfortable,” the statement read.

As the lead agency in the national construction sector, KKR will continue to expand the use of modern technologies such as Building Information Modelling and the Industrialised Building System to ensure projects are managed more efficiently and meet quality standards, while reducing reliance on foreign labour.

The ministry said digitalisation initiatives will also be integrated through programmes such as MyJalan, the Highway Network Development Plan, National Construction Industry Information and Data Analytics Centre and the Road Accident Management System to strengthen planning, construction and maintenance.

It added that the move aims to deliver sustainable and cost‑efficient infrastructure by reducing extensions of time that could inflate national expenditure and delay benefits to the public.

The MP13, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday, outlines several strategic infrastructure projects to strengthen both international and domestic connectivity.

Among them are the upgrading of the Rantau Panjang–Sungai Golok bridge linking Malaysia and Thailand, and the Kalabakan–Simanggaris road that connects Malaysia and Indonesia.

Other major projects include the construction of the Central Spine Road from Bentong, Pahang to Kuala Krai, Kelantan; completion of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah and Sarawak within the MP13 period; and the continuation of the Sarawak–Sabah Link Road and the Trans‑Borneo Highway.

The Prime Minister also announced plans to upgrade major highways and 2,800 kilometres of rural roads by 2030.

“MP13 is not only about building roads, bridges and buildings. It is about building hope and restoring public confidence in the nation’s future,” KKR said. — BERNAMA
