An online article from the Star today quoted state Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development committee chairman Ng Sze Han saying: “The state has decided to give factory operators and landowners in Selangor one last chance to legalise operations by Sept 30 next year.
He said those who fail to legalise operations after the Sept 30, 2020 deadline will face fines of RM500 and an additional RM100 per day from the cut-off date.
“The Land Office will also move to seize the land if the factories are still operating without a license after that,” he added.
Ng who is also the Kinrara state assemblyman said this after launching a programme to license factories and regulate operations in Selangor at the Dewan Hamzah Hall in Klang today.
According to Ng, records from 2013 indicated there are about 2,885 unlicensed factories in the state and 2,638 of them are operating on agricultural land. Only 630 factories of those factories were legalised to date and the state aims to legalise all factory operations by next year.
He further stressed that this programme does not include legalising illegal plastic recycling factories that deal with imported waste. Plastic recycling factories must get approval from the Department of Environment (DOE) first.
